Brake lining are an important part of the brake system equipped with drum brakes or disc brakes. The brake lining is a steel support plate and is coated with a frictional material on the side facing the drum brake or dish. The kinetic energy is converted into heat, dynamic friction and static friction by two steps. When the brake lining is heated by touching the drum, it begins to transfer a small portion of the friction material to the drum. Brakes and drums (both of which have friction material on both sides), will stick to each other to provide braking force, gasket on the drum's dynamic friction to stop the power played a major role.
